Lake Palestine
25,560-acre impoundment for recreation, municipal and industrial water supplies, on Neches River in hilly timber area. Popular for boating, water sports and fishing.

Lake Palestine offers something for everyone in terms of a fishery. The lake is very popular for largemouth bass tournaments due to its consistent success. Both white bass and hybrid striped bass are present; white bass are particularly popular during their spring run up the Neches River and Kickapoo Creeks. Channel and blue catfishes are abundant and flathead catfish provide great opportunity for trophy-sized fish.

Several lake fishing records include black crappie, 2.31 lb.; hybrid striped bass, 12.31 lb.; largemouth bass, 12 lb., walleye, 4.13 lb.; white bass, 2.81 lb.; and white crappie, 3.94 lb. Facilities include marina, bait and tackle shops, swimming beach, boat launching ramps and camping areas. Some 13 miles northwest of Jacksonville via U.S. 175 west; also accessible from Tyler via Texas 155 south, as well as from Athens, Palestine and Frankston.
