Lake
Palestine offers something for everyone in terms of a
fishery. The lake is very popular for largemouth bass
tournaments due to its consistent success. Both white
bass and hybrid striped bass are present; white bass are
particularly popular during their spring run up the Neches
River and Kickapoo Creeks. Channel and blue catfishes
are abundant and flathead catfish provide great opportunity
for trophy-sized fish.
Several
lake fishing records include black crappie, 2.31 lb.;
hybrid striped bass, 12.31 lb.; largemouth bass, 12 lb.,
walleye, 4.13 lb.; white bass, 2.81 lb.; and white crappie,
3.94 lb. Facilities include marina, bait and tackle shops,
swimming beach, boat launching ramps and camping areas.
Some 13 miles northwest of Jacksonville via U.S. 175 west;
also accessible from Tyler via Texas 155 south, as well
as from Athens, Palestine and Frankston.
